Goldie set to soar at Gold Coast Airport

July 4, 2018

In a city renowned for its colourful icons and representatives, a new identity is set to land – providing a warm and friendly “Goldie” welcome to passengers at Gold Coast Airport.

Goldie, the official aeroplane ambassador of Gold Coast Airport, will send smiles soaring having transformed from a small toy into a life-sized one-plane welcome party.

Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Marion Charlton said Goldie has a long connection to the airport, having been the treasured possession of many who have passed through the gates in the past decade.

“Goldie reflects the friendly and fun nature of the Gold Coast and we decided it was time to give Goldie a new lease on life,” she said.

“Goldie is a local who loves everything about the Gold Coast and wants to share his enthusiasm for the city with visitors and locals alike.

“As we often provide the first impression and final memory of a visit to the Gold Coast, it is all part of creating a unique experience and engaging passengers in a light-hearted way.”

In addition to terminal appearances, Goldie will also attend various events and other activities throughout the year.

Goldie’s launch as a life-sized mascot follows the success of an ambassador program and entertainment activations in the terminal that proved popular with passengers during the busy GC2018 Commonwealth Games period.

Ms Charlton said a renewed focus on enhancing the experience for customers had led to the reimagining of Goldie.

“We are hoping that Goldie will bring enjoyment to another generation of passengers and add to the experience of travelling during peak periods,” she said.

“While the three-level expansion of the terminal with provision for aerobridges is central to improving passenger experience, we are always looking at innovative ways to change someone’s day.”
