Queensland is heading back to the big one, and half the Gold Coast seems to be flying south with it. If you're one of the lucky ones bound for Melbourne this weekend, here's how to get from the Goldy to your seat with zero fumbles.

Do I need to book parking at Gold Coast Airport?

Yes, booking ahead is the easiest way to lock in a spot on a busy weekend. Friday is shaping up to be one of our busiest days, with footy fans and school holiday travellers all heading for the gate at once. Book your parking online and spend your warm-up time on the good stuff, like a pre-game feed. Your spot will be ready and waiting when you roll in.

How early should I get to Gold Coast Airport?

Arrive at least 90 minutes before a domestic flight, and be at your airline's check-in counter at least 60 minutes before departure (check-in info). Although at GCA, you'll be through security quicker than a handball over the back.

What should I pack for Melbourne on Grand Final weekend?

Pack a warm layer and a rain jacket in your carry on. It's forecast to be around 19 degrees in Melbourne on Saturday, with a chance of showers, which is practically winter for us. Throw your scarf in too so you can layer up the moment you land. Flags, banners and anything oversized? Check your airline's carry on rules before you pack them.

Where can I eat and drink at Gold Coast Airport before my flight?

For the ultimate pre-game feed, grab a schnitzel at Schnitz and a beer at The Sand Bar, both in the Domestic Departure Lounge after security. Nothing says footy like a schnitty, and Schnitz makes theirs golden and hand-crumbed to order, with a side of their famous chips.
