Regional Economic Significance

Gold Coast Airport is a major source of employment in the Gold Coast and Tweed regions with more than 750 people directly employed in airport related industries. The National Centre for Tourism estimates that annual expenditure in the Gold Coast / Tweed regions, derived from visitors using Gold Coast Airport, is in the order of $820 million. Direct and indirect employment generated by the airport is estimated at 7,900 full time equivalent positions.

Gold Coast Airport Marathon

In one of the most desirable holiday destinations in the world – the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia - is an event that motivates and challenges tens of thousands of people of all ages and abilities.

In 2009, more than 23,000 competitors hit the pavement to contest Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km Run, 5km Run/Walk and Junior Dash events.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Animal Hospital

Gold Coast Airport is proud to be a “Green Guardian” sponsor of the new Community Wildlife Hospital at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, which officially opened Friday 11 September 2009.

The new hospital allows the Sanctuary’s dedicated veterinary staff to meet the growing demand, and as Australia’s busiest wildlife hospital, treating up to 4000 native Australian animals brought in each year, the upgrade to facilities has been eagerly awaited.
