In a city obsessed with quality food and wine, adventures in indulgence are mandatory here, but you’ll be delighted to learn that in and around this gastronomic hub there is no shortage of outdoor thrills and iconic historical sites to discover too. Drop into the time tested Grange at Penfolds Magill Estate, or if beer is more your thing, tour and taste Coopers famous ales, stouts and lagers. Discover the rich history of this area with a stroll along the gracious North Terrace. Here you’ll find the Art Gallery of South Australia and the South Australian Museum – home to the largest Aboriginal cultural collection in the world. At the State Library of South Australia you can pay homage to an Australian icon, Sir Donald Bradman at The Bradman Collection. Swim with sea lions and dolphins at Baird Bay or dive with great white sharks off Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula. Confessions of an What’s your favourite adventure activity in South Australia? We love getting a group of friends together and organising a weekend mountain biking trip along a section of the Mawson Trail, which I believe is the longest continuous Mountain Bike trail in the world. My favourite section is the Riesling trail that winds its ways through the Clare Valley along the old rail line. Where do you like to stay? Any number of B&Bs in the Clare valley. Just pick one, they are all great and very accommodating to people who do the Riesling Trail. What other adventures in indulgence in South Australia do you recommend? Definitely try one of the many cellar doors in the plethora of great wine regions of South Australia. I would recommend the Coonawarra region if you like delicious full bodied cabinets. Best place to relax, unwind? Beachport. It is one of those sleepy little fishing towns that that you think of when you read Hemmingway. It is not really well known but this is definitely the best part, with the ability to walk for miles and miles of pristine, wild beaches and see no one. What’s the biggest thrill in Adelaide? Definitely has to be the Fringe opening night. The best part about the Fringe is that its whole ethos is about lost cost arts and entertainment and with the Fringe Festival opening party having some world class bands playing for free, who can say no to that.
