More than 130 airport staff including the Gold Coast Airport response staff, Airport Fire Service, AFP, The Police, Fire and Ambulance crews from both QLD and NSW and airlines attended the Gold Coast Airport Emergency Exercise on Wednesday 21st August, 2013. This exercise training scenario was to test the effectiveness of the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP) and involved emergency agencies and individuals who would normally respond to a real-time emergency.

Emergency exercises enable agencies to practice annually their response, command, coordination and control functions through a range of scenarios. This year’s exercise was successfully based on a scenario developed by the Airport Emergency Committee, and involved a suspicious bag being found with a simulated explosion in the Terminal which was then attended by airport stakeholders and emergency services.
