Gold Coast Airport's Strict Legal Compliance

Gold Coast Airport is situated on Commonwealth land, which is held under a 99 year lease by the airport operating company, Gold Coast Airport Pty Ltd (GCAPL). One of the implications of this is the airport is not bound by State environmental legislation, but by the federal Airports Act 1996 and Airports Regulations.

Reporting requirements under the Airports Act 1996 include:

  • Airport Environment Strategy - submitted every 5 years
  • Airport Master Plan - long term plan covering 20 year period
  • Major Development Plans - submitted in response to any major development on site

The Airport Environment Strategy (AES) is the major environmental management document for the airport. It contains details of all relevant environmental impacts and how they will be managed to minimise environmental harm.
