Beyond Compliance
Gold Coast Airport's environmental management goes well beyond basic legal compliance.

1.0 Voluntary Initiatives
Gold Coast Airport has made a commitment to have an ISO14001 standard Environmental Management System (EMS) in place by November 2004. ISO14001 is an internationally recognised system for ensuring environmental management actions are undertaken in an appropriate and timely manner. The EMS is well underway and Gold Coast Airport is confident of achieving this target.

Signing up to the Greenhouse Challenge is another Gold Coast Airport initiative. The Challenge includes ongoing reductions in greenhouse gas emissions in relation to a key performance indicator (KPI), along with annual emission reporting to the federal Greenhouse Office. Emission data then becomes available on the official Greenhouse Office website.

Once the EMS and Greenhouse Challenge requirements have been achieved, Gold Coast Airport will be ready to focus on our next initiative - Green Globe certification, which is a benchmarking environmental system rated against other tourism-based operations, including other airports.
